Notifying separate website for facilitating e-way bill services
The Central Government, vide Notification no 4/2017 – Central Tax dated 19th Jun’17 notified ‘www.gst.gov.in’ as the Common Goods and Services Tax electronic portal for facilitating registration, payment of tax, furnishing of returns, computation and settlement of integrated tax and electronic way bill.
The effective date for the same was notified as 22nd Jun’17.
The present notification suppressed the above referred notification and notified the following portal, for the purposes specified below:
- www.gst.gov.in (the website managed by the GSTN) as the common portal for facilitating registration, payment of tax, furnishing of returns and computation and settlement of integrated tax.
- www.ewaybillgst.gov.in (the website managed by the National Informatics Centre, Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology, Government of India) as the common portal for furnishing electronic way bill.
The effective date for the above is 16th Jan’18.
Comment: Earlier, one website i.e. www.gst.gov.in was notified for all the services including ewaybills. Now another website i.e. www.ewaybillgst.gov.in has been launched for facilitating ewaybill services, which is a welcome move, considering the difficulties faced by the industry and trade due to the downtime of the former website.
